The Batakali is a hand-woven overgarment that represents the richness of African textile tradition. In the beginning, it used to be reserved for Ghanian nobles. However, in recent years its popularity increased, and today it’s the Ghanian national dress. It also became the main source of inspiration for Amah Ayivi’s collection. Like no other he managed to skillfully translate this classical garment for Western culture. Thanks to his love for detail, he succeeded in creating a timeless style with a touch of Parisienne chic. Staying true to tradition, his designs are handmade in Ghana by local craftsmen and -women.
